Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Aptree LLC (“Aptree,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with BibleGap and related services (the “Service”).
We designed BibleGap for families. We do not sell personal information. We do not share user information with third parties for their advertising or marketing. We do not display third-party advertisements in the app, and we do not use your family’s data for cross-app tracking.
1. Who This Policy Covers
BibleGap is intended for use by parents and legal guardians (“Parents”) managing reading experiences for children. A Parent creates and controls the account. Children should use the Service only under a Parent’s care. We do not ask children for an email address, password, or other direct online contact information.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Parent Account Information
When you first open BibleGap, we may create an anonymous account identifier so the Service can function on that device without requiring registration.
If you choose to create a regular account (for example, to enable cross-device syncing and more durable persistence of your family’s data), we collect the email address and credentials you provide so you can sign in securely and receive account-related support.
2.2 Child Profile Information
For each child profile created by a Parent, we store a first name or nickname supplied by the Parent. We do not collect a child’s last name, email address, phone number, or photograph.
A Parent may also configure reading-related settings associated with that profile (such as suggested reading level, language preference, and playback preferences). These settings exist so the Service can present an appropriate reading experience; they are controlled by the Parent.
2.3 Reading Activity
To provide progress and parent insights, we may store limited reading activity, such as which stories were opened, pages reached, completion status, and optional fluency scores generated from Listen & Compare practice. Fluency scores are derived metrics; we do not keep a permanent recording of a child’s voice.
2.4 Purchases and Entitlements
If you subscribe or make an in-app purchase, Apple (and, where applicable, our paywall partner) processes payment. We receive entitlement information necessary to unlock premium features (for example, whether a subscription is active). We do not receive your full payment card number.
2.5 Support Communications
If you contact us (including through forms on our website), we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name, email address, and message content, so we can respond.
2.6 Technical Information
Like most applications and websites, we may process limited technical information needed to operate and secure the Service (for example, device type, app version, approximate diagnostics related to crashes or failed requests, and basic server logs). We use this information to keep the Service reliable and secure—not to advertise to you.
3. Microphone and On-Device Voice Verification
BibleGap’s Listen & Compare feature may request microphone permission so a child can practice reading aloud. Microphone access is used only when that feature is started by the Parent or child.
Voice verification for reading practice is performed on-device. BibleGap does not upload raw voice audio from Listen & Compare to Aptree’s servers for storage, sale, or advertising. We do not keep a permanent recording of practice audio. Where the feature produces a fluency or accuracy score, we may store that score (and related reading progress) so a Parent can review practice results in the app.
4. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
- create and manage Parent accounts and child profiles;
- sync and restore family progress when a regular account is used;
- deliver narration, highlighting, and reading-practice features;
- restore subscription entitlements; and
- respond to support requests and protect the security of the Service.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share user information with third parties for their independent marketing or advertising purposes.
5. How We Share Information
We share information only in the limited circumstances necessary to operate the Service or as required by law:
- Service providers. We use trusted processors (for example, cloud infrastructure and authentication providers, and email delivery for support messages) who process data on our instructions and not for their own marketing.
- Payment platforms. Apple and related commerce partners process purchases and subscription status.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Aptree, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. If Aptree is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to continuing confidentiality and privacy commitments consistent with this Policy.
6. Anonymous Use Versus Regular Accounts
You may begin using BibleGap with anonymous sign-in. Anonymous use allows a family to try the Service on a single device with minimal registration.
If you want cross-device syncing and more durable, persistent access to your family’s profiles and progress, you need to create a regular Parent account. Creating a regular account associates your family’s Service data with credentials you control (such as email and password), which enables sign-in on another device and recovery if an installation is removed.
7. Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children for marketing. Child profiles are created and managed by Parents. Purchases, account settings, and profile management are intended to remain under Parent control.
If you believe we have collected information in a manner inconsistent with this Policy, contact us atprivacy@biblegap.com, and we will take appropriate steps to investigate and, where required, delete the information.
8. Data Retention
We retain account, profile, and progress information for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your Parent account through the in-app controls, we delete associated child profiles and stored progress from our systems, subject to limited residual copies that may remain temporarily in secure backups or as required for legal compliance, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution.
9. Security
We implement administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information we maintain. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Choices and Rights
Within the Service, a Parent may typically:
- edit or delete child profiles;
- update reading preferences;
- upgrade from anonymous sign-in to a regular account;
- restore purchases through the applicable store controls; and
- delete the Parent account.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable law (such as rights to access, correct, or delete certain personal information). To exercise a privacy request, emailprivacy@biblegap.com.
11. International Processing
Aptree is based in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that information may be processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and may provide additional notice as appropriate. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
